Overview

The VEEMUX® Audio/Video Matrix Switch routes audio and video inputs from many video sources to multiple displays (projectors, monitors, etc.) and speakers via inexpensive Cat5/5e/6 UTP cable. It is capable of connecting to as many as 32 video sources via transmitters and 16 video displays via receivers with a maximum extension of 600 feet between the local and remote units.


A single audio/video output can be routed to one or more destinations. Each image will be as crisp and clear as if directly connected to the original source. Buffered video outputs and digital transmission of audio signals ensures integrity is maintained throughout the system.

  • Configure and control the switch through Ethernet, serial port or front panel buttons.
  • Matrix Control Software with Graphical User Interface is included.

Front Panel Interface
  • Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) can display all current connections.
  • Locally change input and output selections with front panel buttons.
  • Digital VU-Meter displays audio levels for the currently selected port.

    Two behind the scenes technicians can create and update information from two shared computers connected to a NTI KVM Switch with a local keyboard, monitor and mouse, while a presenter can display any computer's output to any monitor/projector. Video switching is controlled from a PC connected remotely via the Web server.
  • Serial Control using AMX NetLinx® Controller

    Control a VEEMUX Audio/Video Matrix Switch using an AMX NI-2100 NetLinx® Controller with a terminal emulator such as HyperTerminal. Use a Null Modem cable to connect the PC COM port to the AMX Program port. For connecting the AMX RS-232 port to the VEEMUX, use a straight thru, DB-9 Male to DB-9 Female cable. For some NTI products, a DB-9 to RJ-45 adapter may be required, refer to the product's User Manual for more information.

    Terminal Session:
    • AMX factory default baud rate: 38400
    • Data Bits: 8
    • Parity: None
    • Stop Bits: 1
    • Flow Control: None

    Type echo on <Enter> to view the characters while entering commands. You should see a ">" command prompt in the terminal window.

    Configuring the AMX RS-232 Port:
    • The baud rate of the AMX RS-232 port that is connected to the VEEMUX must be set to match the baud rate of the VEEMUX.
    • In the terminal window, type: SEND_COMMAND 5001:1:1,'SET BAUD 9600,N,8,1'<Enter>
    • Assumes factory default configuration and AMX RS-232 port 1.
    Testing the connection:
    • In the terminal window, type: PASS 5001:1:1<Enter>
    • The unit responds with "Entering pass mode."
    • In the terminal window, type: ++<Esc>A
    • The unit responds with "-- Ascii mode --"
    • You should now be able to enter VEEMUX commands:
      • In the terminal window, type: RU 01<Enter>
      • The unit responds with "*<CR>IP,OP<CR>"
      • Where IP is the number of Input Ports and OP is the number of Output Ports on the attached VEEMUX.
    Using the AMX SEND_STRING Command:
    • The AMX SEND_STRING command can be used to send a string of characters to the VEEMUX. The string can be any valid VEEMUX command. The AMX controller must not be in Pass Through mode.
    • To exit Pass Through mode:
      • In the terminal window, type: ++<Esc><Esc>
      • The unit responds with "Exiting pass mode."
    • Example: To connect Input 1 to Output 3 on VEEMUX Unit 1.
      • In the terminal window, type: SEND_STRING 5001:1:1,"'CS 01,01,03',13"
      • The VEEMUX should make the connection Input 1 to Output 3, and should indicate on the LCD that the connection has been made.

    Steps to Reset the Size of a SM-nXm-C5AV-LCD Unit:
    1. On the front panel, press the "Menu" button once.
    2. Press and hold the "1", "2", & "3" (in that order until they are all held down). Then release all 3 buttons at the same time.
    3. Press the "Enter" button.
    4. On the lcd on the front panel, it will display a list of 3 options that are as follows:
      • Option 1. Number of inputs - To change the number of inputs, simply press "1" to select the inputs option. Then key in the number of inputs with the front panel buttons (8, 16, or 32). Then press "Enter".
      • Option 2. Number of outputs - To change the number of outputs, simply press "2" to select the outputs option. Then key in the number of outputs with the front panel buttons (8, 16, or 32). Then press "Enter".
      • Option 3. Reset Memory - To reset the unit, simply press "3" to select the reset unit option. This will reset the unit as follows:
        • Unit size will be reset to 16 inputs & 16 outputs
        • Unit ip address will be reset to 192.168.1.1
        • Unit subnet mask will be reset to 255.255.255.0
        • Unit default gateway will be reset to 192.168.1.1
        • Unit administrator login name will be reset to Administrator
        • Unit administrator login password will be reset to admin
    5. After changing the input size, output size, or resetting the unit, turn off power to the unit (power switch on back) for about 30 seconds.
    6. Turn the unit back on & verify unit size has changed correctly by doing the following:
      • Press the "menu" button
      • Press the "9" button (this will make the lcd display the unit size.)

    The VEEMUX SM-nXm-C5AV-LCD and its compatible ST-C5AV-L-600 and ST-C5AV-R-600 VGA transmitters and receivers can be used to switch and extend VGA sources up to 600 feet away. Additionally, the receivers can be connected to the VGA/Component Video to HDMI Converter (VGACMP-HD) to convert the receiver's VGA and stereo audio output into a single HDMI signal with embedded audio. SAM-2RCAM-xx audio cables are required for converting the receiver's 3.5mm stereo audio output into two RCA phono jacks (R&L) for connection to the VGACMP-HD (not included).
